Oh Cabbage!

Who doesn’t want cabbage? I’m sure most of you love to include it in soup and salad. Though, they are slightly bitter, but that’s because you can actually taste their colon-cancer-fighting compounds called isothiocyanates. Studies have shown that isothiocyanates in cabbage may actively block potential carcinogens, putting the kibosh on not only colorectal cancer but prostate cancer cells as well. According to the Wikipedia, Cabbage is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It contains significant amount of glutamine, an amino acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a source of indole-3-carbinol, or I3C, a compound used as an adjuvant therapy of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, a disease of the head and neck caused by human papillomavirus that causes growths in the airway that can lead to death. Lucky, I love to eat cabbage especially sauerkraut. Usually, I cooked it with sausage. And, it’s really yummy. So I guess we should include it in our diet, too.
